California's battery capacity grew from about 0.6 GW at the end of 2020 to about 15 GW in May 2026, scaled on three policy supports: a CPUC procurement mandate (qualifying capacity, all eligible resources), a resource-adequacy capacity payment, and the federal investment tax credit.
